"Jhudora, the pugged in shaman, kept whispering me about how much she liked our raid for keeping Vent fairly business like and not having vulgarity and mean-ness in our raid chat. I admit, I was sort of taken aback, but then I remembered that that’s one reason why I decided we should run our own raid; because that crude “humor” annoys me so much. I find a lot of women who run with us really enjoy the non-sexist, non-crude, affirming atmosphere. We often has 5 or 6 female players in our raid."
Surprise, surprise, we have something else in common.

I've led too many casual and not-so-casual raids in my days and from my perspective, this is a very good start.

The guildies who attended stayed for the duration (except the one who stepped out for the third healer) and appear to be wanting to continue next week, despite the apparent lack of success.

A pugger, after hours of wiping, wants to be invited again because she liked the way the raid was conducted.

Different strategies were used and everyone (from your post) seemed willing to try different approaches.

Do yourself a favor and base early success or failure on how much you progressed as a group, not the number of boss kills. It seems to me the group came together to a certain extent and that's usually a very good sign of things to come.

About the player who did not come because he felt tanks and healers were not geared enough. I am sorry to say but my experience tells me this type of player will only show up when the perceived odds are in his favors. A flight risk in my opinion.

Good luck!

We are thinking we might start up a short, informal, attendance optional, raid meeting on wednesdays or tuesdays. Just something to talk about how the gearing is coming, who is going to make it, what the plan is... That sort of thing. Hopefully that sort of thing would let us regularly have a final roster by then.

I hear ya. I badly need a new weapon but lack lots of orbs to make it. I just need to get a good drop but it has not happened yet. That HoP work was great and really smoothed things out. Dropping both of you pallies would have hurt but we might get stuck in that boat next week. Hope not though but it is likely.

Oh well. Maybe we will get lucky and get an easier combo of drakes.

We tried various combinations of 2-3 tanking (pulling up two bosses at once or not), 2-3 healing, moving the heroism to either the front (to get past the hardest part) or the back (when we had the most bonus). We even tried downing 3 dragons. That time was 17%. We proved the bonus is not multiplicative so there is no point in doing 3. That also let us see that the ’12 second stun on the boss’ while nice was not actually of benefit.

We had to try everything to see if we could squeeze out more DPS.

We simply needed a higher average dps. Swapping out our lowest one helped, but not enough. Swapping the second lowest might have gotten us closer but we had no super heavy hitter hand. Plus the lowest two were our paladins. We were doing the HoP trick to clear stacks. It worked quite well. I called for one when mine were at 14ish on the first phase and then cleared it with a macro. Then we tank swapped when the first add was down and that put me on the second add with just 4 stacks.

So our best attempts were more or less identical strats so what yall were using. We had him in the teens or below 4 or five times.

I am looking forward to seeing what the new combo of drakes is. I will have to sneak in there again tomorrow and check it out. Having seen two different combinations now and learned enough about 3 of the adds I feel we have a great chance of learning a new set from scratch and then getting him down.
If everyone in the raid goes out and gets one or two upgraded items we will likely get him down.

Jeez! I hate bieng one of the too many melee. Too bad I don't know how to do anything else :( But I had a lot of fun wiping and learning with this group. Way more fun than I've had in the longest time before, or to be honest, since. I'm working all the dailies I can find, and have spent hideous amounts of gold to get to the point where I can actually craft useable stuff. But now I'm stuck needing (for now) 1 Chaos Orb to make an upgrade for myself... And I couldn't get anyone to do a heroic with last night or so far today, so it's not coming anytime soon. Just remember, whenever you need a super-secret-invisible-ret-killer-pally, just ask.

Glad to see you got farther along on that drake combo. Based on the drake abilities thats either the hardest or second hardest in my opinion. (Having the Storm drake instead of the Timewarden requires interupts on the boss which lowers DPS on the Nether drake, with most raid comps.)

I went in there last night in a thrown together guild group that had bear and pally tanks and tree, shammy, and pally heals. We got him down pretty quick with the pally tanking Halfus and bubbling at 12-14 stacks and retaunting. This let us go on to the Timewarden with a tank that only had a few MS debuffs and a fresh tank on the boss. From there its just a DPS race with tank swaps. Not standing in the fire should be a given for raiders.

Well, it was someone who went to a raid that *didn't* get Halfus to 9% at the enrage timer, so.... there's that.

I would rather have raid-aware people who know their rotations in 346 blues than stupid people wearing nothing but purple. Any day. And I'd rather take someone in half greens who treats the other raiders like human beings, than someone wearing more gear who puts other people down.

I really dislike when people base the ability of a raid group to down something soley on gear. I know that gear does factor into having enough dps/heals/survivability, but I've seen 100% geared out players who are just not good players and die 10 seconds into the fight because they don't move out of stuff. All the gear in the world doesn't cure stupidity- so yeah- boo to whomever made that statement!
