Can I make a comic request? I need a stick figure of Kotick and the Facebook guy in the board room. Kotick is explaining the debacle that just happened when Facebook guy (Zucker-something?) turns and says, “Merely a set back!”
Sadly, I genuinely think that we’re still going to see “Suzie Jones has earned the Kingslayer Title in World of Warcraft!” popping up on Facebook Walls when it’s all said and done. Just too much money out there for Activision to pass on. This was merely a set back; heck, it might have even been orchestrated. Today the forums, tomorrow the games, themselves.
This is only a temporary ‘win’. See if you can find three tiny but insignificant words in the quote below. The words are “AT THIS TIME….”
“We’ve been constantly monitoring the feedback you’ve given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums,” Mike Mourhaime, founder and chief executive of Blizzard wrote in an open letter on the company’s forum page.
“As a result of those discussions, we’ve decided at this time that real names will not be needed for posting on official Blizzard forums.”
And by the way its not really a win at all, as the true damage will be done in-game by real ID which is still there.
Yep, good point. It is clear they still have something in the works. Obviously they are teamed with facebook for SOMETHING. We just don’t know how will pan out. I just hope that this episode will make them rethink a little. They probably will not cancel their plans but hopefully they will take into account our desire for anonymity. Maybe not but one can hope.
Really? Hooray!
