It is always frusterating trying to tell people why their perfered play style is messing up other people. Everyone’s reflex is to blame it on the other guy. “Well they should have moved away from the nova.” I had a mage argue with me for half an instance that Frost Nova was a major part of his damage and it was everyone else’s problem if they could not deal with it.

It is not just mages of course. Lots of classes have small things they can do to annoy others. One issue is that so few people speak up. Because of this when someone does complain they claim ‘well no one else has a problem with what I do’. So now it is your fault for complaining.

Frost nova endangers the other squishys even when the tank is close. The mobs all go from “Hit what I hate most” to “Hit whatever’s closest”. If there were 3-4 chars in the same small area that can easily be the priest.

I learned this back in the old AE pulls of Kara days. The tank would pull a pack and pick up aggro.. the mage from habit would bounce in and frost nova… the priest would die. Only when we talked the mages out of the frost nova part were the holy nova spamming priests safe.

That seems like a perfectly ghastly way to behave. On an entirely unrelated note I categorically deny any allegations that I may or may not have indulged in an abundance of enjoyment pertaining to the use of ‘typhoon’ on a ‘boomkin’ while my wife was tanking. Any rumor concerning such activities or associated cackles of glee should be considered unsubstantiated slander… Or alternately a it can be considered misconstruing of legitimate research into class ability tactical application and related effects.

My boyfriend plays a moonkin and an ele shaman. He has the most fun in dungeons when he makes mobs fly, while laughing his ass off and yelling “Flyyyy like a bird!!!”. I can’t even let him die, because he can kill them before they get back… The bastard.

I can’t say I’ve ever encountered the frost nova thing, but if I level another tank I’ll be ready for it now (don’t tend to encounter many frost mages in heroics).

The typhoon/thunderstorm thing I definitely HAVE had to deal with, and yes, it really throws you off your stride, especially if it knocks a spellcaster away from you.

The other thing that messes things up is when a hunter MDs on you then AoEs a pack of mobs, thinking he’s doing you a favour. Well it’s not, cos your carefully planned attack is all gone to hell now, with mobs running all over the place, casters out of melee range, and the worst thing is the rest of the party usually take this as their cue to open up with their own AoE.

Blizzard’s comments that AoE will not be an effective strategy in Cata give me hope
