Being in tree form can make a huge difference. Don't forget about that. It is easy to overlook its bonuses to survivability but they are huge. Also don't forget barkskin! That can buy you valuable seconds too. I would say just barkskin, rejuv and them move away. you really SHOULDN'T need more than that. But if doing that causes you to let the tank get low then you go to your 'oh crap' buttons. These are swift mend, a macro with 'nature's swiftness' and 'healing touch' and finally tranquility. I like to use tranquility as my "oh noez I just can't hit the keys fast enough" button.

But, as my wife said, you HAVE to move away. There are very few AOEs in the game that were designed for you to heal though them.

And don't forget... heroic instances are hard. If you are even a couple levels higher they can be very hard. We have gotten our idea of 'hard' all out of calibration because of how insane the average gear levels are 80 are. It is easy to forget that gear that good makes us as if we are 3-6 levels higher. Which holds true for outlands heroics too. They were designed for people that had hit level cap and had gear that made them as if they were 72 to 75.

Thanks for the reminder about part 2 and also for the feedback on the style of these.

We need to get this out, you're right. As to your problem, for one on a lot of fights with aoe you are basically expected to stay out of it, not heal through it, and the same for mages and such. People who have been overgeared forget this. If your spells are the right rank (actually easy to mess up if you have dual spec, the spells on the spec that is not active when you train will not be updated)

I also suggest getting an addon that does "real time theorycrafting" and adds a little number at the bottom of your spell buttons that says exactly how much damage/healing that spell will do when you cast it. When levelling, often one spell will be great for three levels, then you train something else and it's better. I believe DrDamage is an addon like this. But it'll tell you exactly how much oomph your spells pack.

I was looking for part II , while I am not concerend about pairs leveling, I am finding that my resto druid (level 73) is having a hard time staying alive in instances (level 70, like steamvault heroic) even just the aoe from bosses kill me too fast.
I must be doing something wrong. Your above style of information is helpful and just the format I need...

I try to do the instant cast heal over times to keep the tank and others alive, using the casting time spells when I have them buffed with the HOT, and they need more.

it might be they need more healing than I can do (their gear?) but I should be able to do more than just try to keep myself alive...

So, part II coming?
